PCM Engine Maintenance

Memo for servicing engines with dual (marine) and standard cooling systems. Exactly following the recommendations will extend the life of your boat's engine.

 

This is the official work schedule from the manufacturer.

Daily check:

Performed by owner / driver

  1. Coolant level (for dual cooling systems)
  2. Engine oil level
  3. Transmission oil level
  4. General inspection of the engine for leaks in the cooling system and fuel system
  5. Throttle system and steering system - operation check
  6. Seawater filter (if equipped)
  7. Checking exhaust manifolds for coolant leaks

Check after the first 25 hours of operation:

Performed by owner / driver

  1. Cooling system - check all cooling system hoses and retaining clamps
  2. Drive belt - checking the condition of the belt and its tension
  3. Exhaust system - checking the condition and tightening of all fasteners
  4. General check of the engine - fastening of parts and parts of the engine, starter, operation of all control systems
  5. Changing the oil and oil filter
  6. Checking the condition of the batteries, wiring and connections

Performed by an authorized PCM dealer

  1. Ignition system - checking the condition of the candles and their operation
  2. Check and lubricate the engine, if required
  3. Replacing the fuel filter
  4. Transmission fluid replacement and transmission filter cleaning (if installed)
  5. Replacing fluid in gearbox and filter cleaning (if installed)

Every 50 hours of operation:

Performed by owner / driver

  1. Checking the intake pump of the cooling system and the condition of the impeller / replacing the impeller
  2. Changing the oil and oil filter
  3. Checking the condition of the batteries, wiring and connections
  4. Checking the engine wiring and cable connections (for fresh water every 50 hours or 60 days of operation, for salt water every 25 hours or 30 days of operation)

Performed by an authorized PCM dealer

  1. Replacing the fuel filter

Every 100 hours of operation:

PERFORMED BY OWNER / DRIVER

  1. Cooling system - check all hoses of the cooling system and fixing clamps (for fresh water it is carried out every 100 hours or 120 days of operation, for salt water every 50 hours or 60 days of operation)
  2. Drive belt - checking the condition of the belt and its tension
  3. Exhaust system - checking the condition and tightening of all fasteners (for fresh water every 100 hours or 120 days of operation, for salt water every 50 hours or 60 days of operation)
  4. General check of the engine - fastening of parts and parts of the engine, starter, operation of all control systems
  5. Flame Arrester - Condition Check and Cleaning
  6. Check all engine hoses
  7. Lubrication of the steering system and engine throttle (for fresh water every 100 hours or 120 days of operation, for salt water every 50 hours or 60 days of operation)

PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED PCM DEALER

  1. Ignition system - checking the condition of the candles and their operation

Annual Service:

PERFORMED BY OWNER / DRIVER

  1. Cooling system - check all cooling system hoses and retaining clamps
  2. Checking the intake pump of the cooling system and the condition of the impeller / replacing the impeller
  3. Drive belt - checking the condition of the belt and its tension
  4. Exhaust system - checking the condition and tightening of all fasteners

PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED PCM DEALER

  1. Ignition system - checking the condition of the candles and their operation, replacing the candles
  2. Check and lubricate the engine, if required
  3. Replacing the fuel filter
  4. Replacing transmission fluid (see consumables and oils below) and cleaning the transmission filter (if installed)
  5. Replacing fluid in the gearbox (see consumables and oils below) and cleaning the filter (if installed)
  6. Impeller Replacement

Additional work:

PERFORMED BY OWNER / DRIVER

  • For boats with a dual cooling system - cleaning the cooling system - as needed
  • For boats with a dual cooling system - check the condition of the coolant - at least once a year
  • Coolant change - every five years
  • Anodes - check every 30 days. If the boat is operated in salt or mineralized water, more frequent inspections are required.
  • External engine treatment with anti-corrosion agents - for fresh water, every 60 days; for salt water every 30 days
  • For offshore boats - flushing the cooling system - after each use

Consumables and oils:

Used oils:

  • Above 10 degrees Celsius - SAE 15W40 Oil
  • Below 10 degrees Celsius (well, what if?) - SAE 5W30 oil
  • Except XS550 / XR550 engines
  • For engines XS550 / XR550 Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W30 oil is used
  • For PCM Transmission - Dextron III
  • For PCM V-Drive Gearbox Oil R190250
  • For Walters V-Drive gearbox SAE 30 oil
  • For all Hurth - Dextron III transmissions

Oil volumes:

  • The minimum oil volume in the engine with a new filter is about 3.7 liters
  • Transmission PCM 1: 1 - 1.9 liters - Dextron III
  • Transmission PCM 1.23: 1 - 1.9 liters - Dextron III
  • HURTH Transmission (All) - 3.7 L - Dextron III
  • HURTH V-Drive gearbox - 4.35-4.73 liters - Dextron III
  • PCM Power Plus Reducer - 1.42 L - R190250
  • Walters RV-36D gearbox - 1.42 liters - SAE30
